NEW CASTLE, Ind. — A tragic motorcycle crash along Indiana State Road 3 in New Castle claimed the life of 33-year-old Cody Denney late Wednesday night, prompting an investigation by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.
According to officials, the fatal incident occurred just before midnight in the 3800 block of IN-3. Authorities were initially dispatched after a passing motorist reported striking what they believed was debris on the roadway. Upon arriving at the scene, a responding deputy discovered a motorcycle in the grassy median that divides the highway’s northbound and southbound lanes. Close by, Denney was found lying on the ground with critical injuries.
Emergency responders rushed to administer aid, but despite efforts to resuscitate him, Denney was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe Denney was operating the motorcycle when he lost control, causing him to veer off the road and collide with multiple concrete culverts in the median. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and there is currently no indication that another driver contributed to the accident.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities say they are examining various potential factors, including excessive speed, mechanical failure, roadway conditions, and possible impairment. A toxicology report is pending.
The portion of IN-3 where the incident occurred is known for heavy, fast-moving traffic and presents additional hazards at night due to limited lighting and sharp curves. Although not classified as a frequent crash site, local officials acknowledge that similar incidents have occurred there in the past.
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone who may have been in the area around the time of the crash — particularly those with dashcam footage — to come forward as investigators continue to piece together what happened.
As news of Denney’s death spread, family and friends took to social media to express their heartbreak and honor his memory. Many remembered Cody as a kind-hearted and adventurous individual who loved motorcycles and lived life to the fullest.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been made public.
The Sheriff’s Office extended its condolences to Denney’s loved ones and used the opportunity to remind the public — especially motorcyclists — to stay vigilant on the road and to take extra precautions when driving at night.
Denney’s tragic passing serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers faced by motorcyclists and the importance of safe driving practices on Indiana’s roads.
